The Jewish Community of Vienna (IKG) has awarded Daniel Lörcher and Dr. Andreas Kahrs the Torberg Medal for their work for Borussia Dortmund and beyond. Lörcher, former head of the corporate responsibility department and current anti-discrimination officer at BVB, and Dr. Kahrs have been campaigning for years in the fight against anti-Semitism and to keep alive the memory of the Holocaust.
The Marietta and Friedrich Torberg Medal is the highest award given by the Jewish Community and it honours work in the fight against anti-Semitism and remembering the Holocaust. Daniel Lörcher and Dr. Andreas Kahrs were honoured for their commitment to tackling anti-Semitism in sport, including their work at Borussia Dortmund, and their contribution to the culture of remembrance in Europe. Currently, through their NGO what matters, they support companies and associations in developing an attitude on social issues such as anti-Semitism, racism or discrimination, and implementing this in their organisations.
The Torberg Medal was presented by IKG President Oskar Deutsch during a festive ceremony in the community centre of the Jewish Community in the Austrian capital. “Dr. Andreas Kahrs and Daniel Lörcher are pioneers in the fight against anti-Semitism. Especially in football, but now far beyond that, their positive social impact is striking,” said Oskar Deutsch.
Daniel Lörcher: “I am very pleased about the award and it is a great honour to receive the Torberg Medal. I am grateful for our many collaborations, especially with Borussia Dortmund, which enable us to work on preserving the memory of the Holocaust and the fight against anti-Semitism.”
