32 points after 25 matches – it’s quite impressive what VfL Bochum 1848 have already achieved in this Bundesliga season. Nevertheless, more points are needed to achieve the big goal of staying in the league. The next chance to do so is on Sunday, 5:30pm (CET). The Blue-and-Whites will then be hosted by Eintracht Frankfurt. Before the match, head coach Thomas Reis answered the journalists’ questions as usual.

Thomas Reis on…

… the personnel: Six players are unavailable. Simon Zoller has returned to full training but it is way too early for him re-joining the squad. Cristian Gamboa is suspended due to his fifth yellow card. Four players have contracted covid: Maxim Leitsch, Danilo Soares, Michael Esser and Luis Hartwig.

… the consequences oft he personnel situation: We have to replace three regulars, which is something that doesn’t happen every day. But I have full confidence in the lads who come in. As we have emphasised frequently, we have a broad squad with lots of potential. For example, Erhan Mašović, who has played a great season so far, and  Konstantinos Stafylidis, who has repeatedly proved his quality.

… the 2-1 win over SpVgg Greuther Fürth: The victory against Fürth was an important step, no question. But we must not make the mistake of resting on our laurels. Otherwise, we will experience an unpleasant surprise. We want to keep collecting points. With self-confidence, not arrogance.

… Eintracht Frankfurt: Eintracht has a really great team. In their Europa League match against Betis Sevilla they impressively displayed the potential they have. In the Bundesliga, their results have been a bit inconsistent, but they have no end of individual class. If you allow them to play, it will be extremely difficult. We definitely have to be alert. I’m really looking forward to playing against such a team. Before the season, not many pundits would have expected us to be only two points behind Eintracht at this point.

… Danny Blum:Danny has made a very, very good impression. His quality is undisputed and he is playing a big role in my considerations. Let’s see if he has enough power for 90 minutes. But it is very much possible that he will play.

… the striker’s position: Sebastian Polter will start, not just because Jürgen Locadia has been out of training for a few days. Polti has invested so much in the recent matches, he has earned his place in the starting XI.

… on his first professional stint with Eintracht Frankfurt: I gathered a lot of experience in Frankfurt, got to know some great characters. That time shaped me – there were great experiences in my three professional years at Eintracht.
