With just under two weeks to go until the start of the second half of the B-Junioren Bundesliga West league, VfL Bochum’s U17s lost 0-1 to SV Darmstadt 98 in their penultimate friendly match. The visitors struck against the run of play, while VfL were not rewarded for their high effort.
This is how the game went:
Friendly defeat for VfL U17s. It was the penultimate game before points are at stake again in just under two weeks. SV Darmstadt 98 were the opponents at Hiltroper Straße.
After an initial feeling-out period, VfL increasingly took control of the game. The best chance came from striker Mohammad Mahmoud, whose lob rolled just past the Darmstadt box (15th). When the visitors appeared in front of Bochum’s goalkeeper Hugo Rölleke for the first time, it was suddenly 0-1 – seemingly out of nowhere (30.). Thus it went with the arrears into the break.
From the start, the game went in only one direction in the second half. The U17s ran at it and played out many worthwhile actions. Jayden Peters’ attempt from distance (43rd) and Luca Erdelkamp’s shot against the post (47th) were both close to equalizing. There wasn’t much more from the Hessians offensively, but they defended away all of Bochum’s subsequent attacks – sometimes with the necessary luck. So it remained at 0-1, from which the VfL can take a lot in terms of play.
What the coach says:
David Siebers: “I am very satisfied with the first half. It is annoying that we concede the goal in this strong phase with the only allowed chance. But I’m very satisfied with the performance and the face that my team showed, especially in the first half. I also saw our will in the second half. Unfortunately, we didn’t manage to develop enough goal danger from it.
