6-0 win in first pre-season friendly
FCA off to winning start against Türkspor Augsburg
FC Augsburg won 6-0 in their first pre-season friendly against Türkspor Augsburg. A total of 2,700 spectators attended the match against the Bayernliga side.
Head coach Enrico Maaßen included new signings Sven Michel, Tim Breithaupt and Patric Pfeiffer in the starting XI, with Niklas Dorsch captaining the side. Fredrik Winther, who recently returned from a loan spell in Denmark, also started.
The game got off to an unfortunate start for FCA, as Robert Gummy was forced off with an injury sustained in a tackle in the eighth minute. The team quickly shook off the setback and recorded two quick chances on goal, though both Noah Sarenren Bazee (9’) and Irvin Cardona (11’) were denied by Türkspor goalkeeper Batuhan Tepe. The pace of the game settled down in the following minutes, likely also due to the sweltering temperatures.
FCA would go on to take the lead in the 33rd minute, as Jensen tapped in the opener. The team continued to push for more goals, and looked a threat from corners in particular. Both Michel (35’) and Breithaupt (39’) only narrowly missed doubling their advantage from a corner. Just before the half-time break, Sarenren Bazee netted our second goal of the day, finishing from just inside the box.
Malone scores a brace
Maaßen made 11 changes at half-time, bringing on goalkeeper Finn Dahmen for his FCA debut. The second half started with Arne Maier hitting the crossbar with a free-kick from 25 metres out, with the midfielder nearly getting on the scoresheet in the 57th minute. He was denied by a strong save from the Türkspor goalkeeper.
FCA then struck twice in quick succession, with Maurice Malone making it 3-0 (71’), followed by another goal from Jozo Stanić just three minutes later. The team continued to look to attack, with Malone netting a brace in the 82nd minute. Nathanaël Mbuku scored the sixth and final goal of the game in the 84th minute, after an assist from Maier.
FCA’s next pre-season friendly will take place in Kufstein on Saturday, 15th July (15:00 CEST) against Turkish Süper Lig side Beşiktaş.
