VfL Wolfsburg drew 1-1 in a friendly with last season’s Ligue 1 runners-up RC Lens in front of a crowd of around 2,700 fans on Saturday afternoon. Ridle Baku gave the Green-and-Whites the lead in the 76th minute, only for Deiven Machado to equalise five minutes later.

The Wolves are heading to Donaueschingen on Monday 31 July for their second training camp of pre-season. The club have confirmed another friendly for Wednesday 2 August, when they will take on Spezia Calcio at the MS Technologie-Arena in Villingen-Schwenningen at 17:00 CEST.

Anselmo Garcia MacNulty is leaving VfL Wolfsburg and heading to the Netherlands. The Spain-born 20-year-old, who also has an Irish passport, has moved on a permanent deal to top-tier side PEC Zwolle.

Wolves fight back in hard-fought friendly

VfL Wolfsburg beat Bundesliga rivals SC Freiburg 3-2 on Saturday in their second pre-season friendly ahead of the 2023/24 campaign. In a game split into two 60-minute halves, goals from Maximilian Breunig (22’) and Mika Baur (66’) put Freiburg ahead before efforts from Maximilian Philipp (76’), Lukas Nmecha (penalty, 78’) and Tiago Tomas (87’) earned the Wolves a comeback victory.

Paredes sidelined

Bad news for VfL Wolfsburg and Kevin Paredes, who is set for several weeks on the sidelines with a muscle strain. The 20-year-old American winger suffered the injury in a training session at VfL’s training camp in Seefeld, Austria, on Tuesday morning.
