Union are in the hat for Sunday’s DFB Pokal semi-final draw following a 2-1 win over FC St. Pauli at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei. The side from Hamburg managed to pull off a shock lead through Daniel-Kofi Kyereh’s free-kick on 21 minutes. Union showed character to take control of the game from there on and the resolve was rewarded when Sheraldo Becker looped in the equaliser on the stroke of half-time. Union regrouped and went on the hunt for the winning goal immediately after the restart. Andreas Voglsammer came off the bench midway through the half and went through to score the decisive goal on 75 minutes to send Union into the last four of the competition.

Oliver Ruhnert, 1. FC Union Berlin’s Managing Director for Professional Football, said on the draw that Union “will give their best in Leipzig and try to go above and beyond” to secure a final spot.
“I didn’t grow up too far from Berlin, so I have followed the club for several years,” said Seguin on his transfer to Union. “It’s impressive how Union have fought their way into the Bundesliga while always remaining true to themselves. With my performance, I want to contribute to continuing the club’s development over the past few years next season and I’m looking forward to my new role in Berlin-Köpenick,” commented Paul Seguin on his move to the Eisernen.

Taiwo Awoniyi’s own goal meant 1. FC Union Berlin picked up no points from the trip to Wolfsburg last weekend. The week had gone well for the Köpenick club with a 3-1 win at home to Mainz before a quarter-final German Cup victory over FC St. Pauli. Despite a good first-half performance and a dominant second-half showing, Urs Fischer’s team were unable to get the just rewards. Sheraldo Becker put the ball beyond Koan Casteels on 55 minutes but referee Patrick Ittrich adjudged there to have been a foul in the build-up. Union pushed in the second half for the equaliser but passed up the opportunities in and around the penalty box.
A 75% limit is on capacity (16,509) with 1,000 away supporters. There is still a chance for Union members to buy tickets from the Secondary Ticket Market.
