Union travel west to Arminia Bielefeld

1. FC Union Berlin lost 0-3 at home to Borussia Dortmund last Sunday, but the Köpenick club showed a great reaction after the interval. Goals from Marco Reus put Marco Rose’s side ahead at the break in front of 10,000 fans at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei. Union returned after the half-time break and delivered a strong performance. Urs Fischer’s side passed up a lot of opportunities to peg Dortmund back and turn the game around. Raphael Guerreiro scored a third before Kevin Möhwald’s header was ruled out after consultation with the video assistant referee. Fischer was able to hand a debut to Sven Michel at the Alte Försterei, a first appearance for Andras Schäfer and 20 minutes to a returning Anthony Ujah.

Prömel to leave Union for Hoffenheim

“Driving into the car park at the Alte Försterei in the morning and meeting the first members of staff who greet you with a smile on their face is something I enjoy every day and I will miss that very much. I have experienced a lot with Union – the club, the fans and the staff – in the last few years. We were promoted together, realised our dream of the Bundesliga and then qualified for Europe. This special time has left a deep impression on me and will remain in my memory forever. Above all, the feeling of community, the mood and atmosphere make the club something unique. I would like to thank all my teammates, the coaches and support staff, all the staff and fans for the best time of my career so far. But there is still a lot to do before I leave and I will give everything to finish this season successfully together with all Union players,” said Prömel on his decision to leave the club.

Home clash against Mainz

1. FC Union Berlin suffered a 0-1 defeat at Arminia Bielefeld last Saturday. The Köpenick club lost for the third successive game as Urs Fischer’s team struggled to find the killer instinct in front of goal. Patrick Wimmer hit the post after 11 minutes, but Union came back into the game. Stefan Ortega made a sharp block against Taiwo Awoniyi while a cross from Sheraldo Becker was headed wide by Sven Michel. Union’s new number 10 passed up a chance in the second half before Bielefeld broke through. Masaya Okugawa scored after 53 minutes, shooting past Andreas Luthe from inside the box to give the home side all three points.
