Taiwo Awoniyi’s 11th goal of the season from the penalty spot put Urs Fischer’s side ahead four minutes before half-time.
Rönnow is named in the Danish team to face Serbia and The Netherlands.
“We have made a club policy decision to initiate a long-term process that has a historic dimension for women’s football at 1. FC Union Berlin. The women who play football in our club should be able to develop the same competitive sporting aspirations as the men in the future. As a Bundesliga club, we are in a position to provide the necessary funds to advance the professionalisation of the entire department. It is time to take this step consistently now,” said 1. FC Union Berlin club president Dirk Zingler.
Tieckle continued: “We have come to know and appreciate each other over the past few years. Our cooperation so far has been very successful and has not only fulfilled our expectations, but exceeded them. So we went into the talks about the main sponsorship full of joy, firmly convinced that we are the right partner for Union – and Union the right partner for us. Together we have caused a sensation not only in Germany but throughout Europe. Together, we now want to continue the successful course of the last few years and I’m sure we will succeed.”
1. FC Union Berlin were minutes away from getting to the 40-point mark for the season, but managed to only take a point from last weekend’s home clash with VfB Stuttgart. A strong first-half performance was rewarded by a penalty kick for handball. Taiwo Awoniyi stepped up to convert shortly before the break and take his tally to 11. Stuttgart put on more pressure in the second half but despite that, Union were well in control. A header from Niko Gießelmann could have killed the contest at a crucial point. The away side dug into the energy reserves and found more threat in the last 15 minutes. Sasa Kalajdzic hit the post but he would later get his reward to equalise after 91 minutes. An inch-perfect cross from Borna Sosa gave the Austrian a crack at goal and he beat Frederik Rönnow to make it 1-1.
Tickets are available online. The home areas will be the main stand and Waldseite.
In the coming weeks, the care and employment of refugee children will become increasingly important. Therefore, 1. FC Union Berlin has prepared a football programme for children and is working closely with the Jewish Community of Berlin and other organisations in the field of refugee aid. The children are offered a varied and active programme under the professional guidance of Union coaches. They can choose between a full-day programme including lunch at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei or on an hourly basis in the morning or afternoon.
Urs Fischer’s side fought for the 90 minutes and were passed up good chances at key times in the first-half to break the deadlock and equalise before the result was out of sight.
Same as the Stuttgart home match: All season ticket holders can take their regular places.
