Bayern Munich’s Thomas Müller laments missed chances, but loves end result in victory over Union Berlin

“We were really lively — for example, the way we managed to break free in attack. We need to be active like that,” Müller said after the game (via FCBayern.com). “We were always on the move and aggressive in the tackle. For me, it was a lot of fun to be so involved in such moments. It was a good game. We weren’t top at kick-off, so had to do something about that. It was a good step but counts for nothing next week. We have to deliver again. I’m happy we made that step. You have to play that way against Union. It was the first small step towards the kind of football we want to play.”

Union aim for home win against Stuttgart

Taiwo Awoniyi’s own goal meant 1. FC Union Berlin picked up no points from the trip to Wolfsburg last weekend. The week had gone well for the Köpenick club with a 3-1 win at home to Mainz before a quarter-final German Cup victory over FC St. Pauli. Despite a good first-half performance and a dominant second-half showing, Urs Fischer’s team were unable to get the just rewards. Sheraldo Becker put the ball beyond Koan Casteels on 55 minutes but referee Patrick Ittrich adjudged there to have been a foul in the build-up. Union pushed in the second half for the equaliser but passed up the opportunities in and around the penalty box.

U23s return to the Rote Erde against Halle

At the start of this week, the Rote Erde still looked like a major construction site: trucks were out on the pitch, as were mountains of sand, as the new pitch surface had to be laid. But the work was all completed on schedule, and on Saturday, the U23s can finally play at home once more. “We are looking forward to playing where we feel at home again and getting into our routines,” said coach Jan Zimmermann, for whom it will be a first competitive match in this stadium. “That might add an extra one or two percent to our performance.”

“Couldn’t ask for a better birthday present” — Jamal Musiala on Bayern Munich’s 3-0 win over Union Berlin

When Thomas Müller darted toward the end line and hooked back a pass, Musiala was there to deposit into the back of the net. Musiala was just one of several standouts for the Bavarians, but he was the only one able to don a party hat afterward and blow out the candles on his birthday cake.

Che and Quaresma leave Hoffenheim

“Justin and Eduardo are talented lads and great characters. They have both repeatedly shown promising signs for the future,” says Alexander Rosen. “However, we have agreed with the players that in the current phase of their careers, they need regular game time to continue to develop. That is something we cannot guarantee them here,” said the TSG director of professional football, explaining the decision to let both players go.
