VfL Wolfsburg

Late defeat

VfL Wolfsburg suffered a 3-2 defeat against Hannover 96 in their fourth pre-season friendly of the summer on Saturday afternoon. Marcel Halstenberg put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot in the eighth minute in front of 2,200 fans at the Eilenriedestadiongegen, but the Wolves equalised almost immediately through Jakub Kaminski (11’). Halstenberg had a chance to restore Hannover’s lead with another spot-kick, but this time Marius Müller was able to save. Mohamed Amoura put VfL 2-1 up shortly before half-time (44’), but Nicolo Tresoldi restored parity for Hannover soon after the restart (47’). Jessic Ngankam came off the bench to hit a late winner for the hosts in what was an evenly balanced game overall. The Wolves head off to a training camp in Schladming between 1-9 August as they fine tune their preparations for the new season, before playing their final friendly in Brentford on 9 August at 19:45 CEST.

FCA beaten 2-1 by TS Galaxy

At the Mbombela Stadium, one of the host venues for the 2010 World Cup, FCA gave a first outing to their green away kit, which was unveiled with spectacular photos and videos from the Kruger National Park on Friday. For their second friendly in South Africa, Jess Thorup’s side were missing Finn Dahmen, who is still injured, and Irvin Cardona, who has suffered a knock. Steve Mounié, who has travelled to his home country of Benin for personal reasons, and Croatians Nediljko Labrović and Kristijan Jakić, who have been denied entry, were also unavailable.
