VfL Wolfsburg

Off to England

After two years with the Wolves, 22-year-old centre-back Micky van de Ven has left the Green-and-Whites to join Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur. Van de Ven signed for VfL from Dutch club FC Volendam in the summer of 2021 and went on to make 41 competitive outings in his two seasons in Germany, scoring once and providing three assists. The left-footed defender blossomed into a key player for the Wolves last term, appearing in 33 of the club’s 34 Bundesliga matches. “We’ve had two enjoyable, eventful years together and it’s been a successful time in every respect,” said Marcel Schäfer, VfL’s managing director for sport. “Micky always showed full commitment to VfL Wolfsburg, worked hard and has developed outstandingly well. We wish him all the best going forward, both in his personal life and his career.”

The leaders are yet to drop a single point this season too and are close to retaining their title. So it will not be an easy task for Henk Groener’s charges, who claimed an important triumph at TuS Metzingen on Wednesday. After all, the 33-26 (18-16) win kept not only their opponent at arm’s length in the table but also challengers Blomberg and Oldenburg, who are both still eyeing third place. No wonder there was a feeling of immense joy about the two points after the match.
