Senne Lynen is embarking on a new adventure in Bremen. Over the past few years, the Belgian has experienced a footballing fairytale with Union SG. The 24-year-old was a member of the team promoted from the Challenger Pro League, which then also went on to reach the quarter-finals of the Europa League. Lynen is set to pursue his next challenge with SV Werder Bremen. “The Bundesliga is one of the biggest competitions in Europe”, he explained, “Werder is a great club and this is definitely the right move for me.”
Bayern Munich’s 2-0 second leg win over Paris Saint-Germain, 3-0 on aggregate, looked far from an assured outcome in the first half. For a heart-pounding few seconds, the Parisians looked certain to equalize, after Yann Sommer was caught on the ball and PSG’s Vitinha was able to fire into an empty net.
Everything seemed ready to go, but at 16:00 CEST on the dot at Schenckendorffplatz torrential rain started to pour down. A classic summer storm prevented the planned start of the Blue-White’s pre-season out on the pitch. Anticipation ahead of the new season, which is reflected by the amount of season ticket sales so far, was also reflected by around 200 fans who had come to watch training, but the weather didn’t allow for the original plan and improvisation was needed. Instead, the players worked inside doing some gym work. “A proper training session would’ve been better in giving me a direct picture of the new players, because every second counts,” explained Pál Dárdai, who will lead the time for a sixth season. For the head coach as well as the supporters, there will be more more opportunities to watch the boys putting in the hard yards in the coming days. “People love this club and support us. If we can work well as a coaching team and everything grows together it will be worth coming again because then we will see a team built on mentality with character that gives everything for Hertha BSC. That is the first step before we can state any goals,” emphasised the head coach.
In addition to the new opening times of the Fan Shop at the PreZero Arena, the reachability of the ticketing hotline (07261-9493 0) will also change. The hotline will be available from 10:00 to 12:00 CET and from 13:30 to 17:00 CET on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays; on Thursdays, from 10:00 to 12:00 CET and from 13:30 to 18:00 CET.
“There was a catastropic situation outside the ground before the match,” said Christian Arbeit, Managing Director for Communications at 1. FC Union Berlin. “Hundreds of Union fans didn’t get into the stadium. That is not acceptable. We will meet with Feyenoord and UEFA to assess the situation and address these issues.”
This cup quarter-final held a premiere in store for Borussia Dortmund. The women’s team played on a clay pitch for the first time, in the shadow of the old Phoenix-West blast furnace. The Grandplatz am Schallacker is one of the last of its kind in Dortmund. It was a slice of Ruhr romanticism for the 300 spectators, but it was less of a love affair for the players.
Our 2023 fan day was a great experience and gave those in attendance the chance to see the players up close. “The weather allowed to us to have the perfect day this year,” rejoiced captain Marco Friedl, who recalled the terrible weather in North Germany that has affected past editions. In the end, 30,000 people were present over the course of the day, who together with their heroes on the stage, contributed towards a magnificent experience for all.
