Union’s Crucial Second Leg

After the goalless draw between the sides currently second in the Eredivisie and third in the Bundesliga in the first leg (the only one of the knock out round), at least one thing is certain; there will be a minimum of one goal seen on Thursday night. Whether that comes in the 90 minutes, extra time or in a penalty shoot-out, however, remains to be seen. It is also worth remembering that the away goals rule no longer counts in UEFA competition. The winner will enter the last 16 of the Europa League.

Borré bags winner for Colombia, Woltemade scores first goal for the U21s

The November international break certainly wasn’t lacking in action for the Green-Whites. While Rafael Borré hit home the winning goal for Colombia, Nick Woltemade helped turn the game around for Germany U21s a few hours prior in their 3-1 win over Poland. The clash between Germany and Austria also saw two Werder teammates come head-to-head, with Marvin Ducksch and Romano Schmid sharing the pitch in colours other than green and white.

FC Barcelona lurking on João Cancelo if Bayern Munich doesn’t buy him

According to a report from Florian Plettenberg (via @iMiaSanMia), FC Barcelona are observing Cancelo and might make a move for him if Bayern don’t. The Bavarians haven’t said anything to Cancelo that they will buy him but are still monitoring his stay while a future in an FCB club is likely if Pep Guardiola opts not to roll with the former Juventus player upon return to Manchester.

Röhl scores in win for the U21s

Head coach Ralf Rangnick once again called up Philipp Lienhart and Michael Gregoritsch to the Austria national team. Austria were in action away from home in Estonia in a European Championships qualifier. Both Lienhart and Gregoritsch started the game and Lienhart scored his first international goal with a header after Konrad Laimer had put Austria ahead.

Union’s Women Travel to Babelsberg

Having played 14 matches, FSV Babelsberg 74 are sat in the lower middle of the table in 10th place with 15 points. Whether this will ultimately be enough to stay in the Regionalliga though is still unclear. The North-East German Football Association (NOFV) wants to reduce the size of the league from 14 to 12 teams again for the coming 2023/24 season, which is why it has not yet been finally decided how many teams will ultimately have to be relegated.

VfL Wolfsburg

High success rate

VfL Wolfsburg supporters can look forward to a strong contingent of Wolves players at next summer’s European Championship finals, which are being held in Germany from 14 June to 14 July 2024. In Koen Casteels, Aster Vranckx (both Belgium), Joakim Maehle, Jonas Wind (both Denmark), Cedric Zesiger (Switzerland), Vaclav Cerny (Czech Republic) and the currently injured Patrick Wimmer (Austria), seven VfL stars have already helped their respective countries qualify for the tournament.
