RBL’s head coach speaks to the media ahead of his side’s clash with Eintracht Frankfurt

The future of Hertha 03 Zehlendorf’s women’s team is currently somewhat uncertain, for two reasons. Firstly, the side who only returned to the Regionalliga in the summer after an absense of 17 years, are facing a battle to stay in the league. With 19 points, they are in a healthy looking 9th place. However, since it is still unclear how many teams will be relegated from the Regionalliga Nordost, the team from southwest Berlin are still in the dark.

“It was a very intense match with lots of scoring chances at both ends. In the first half in particular, you saw how well they can link up if you don’t close down the centre. Then it’s difficult to stop them. But we still managed not to give away many clear opportunities in the first half. There were a few things we liked less. We hardly had any possession, were far too close to each other and made it too easy for them to press us with their only striker. But we nonetheless managed to implement a lot of things that we set out to do. We were able to win many balls back via pressing and counter-pressing and create chances in the process. It was a good and important test for us.”

Head coach Ole Werner and head of professional football Clemens Fritz answered journalists’ questions ahead of the final game of the first round of matches in Bochum on Sunday, 14th January at 15:30 CET. Squad news was the main focus of the press conference.

The Frenchman, however, wants to play center-back moving forward. New Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel used a 4-2-3-1 with Pavard at right-back against Borussia Dortmund in his first game at the helm in Bavaria, but it remains to be seen if Tuchel will use a back three or Pavard at center-back at all moving forward.

“Kevin has been with TSG since July and can already almost be described as an institution in our Bundesliga history. He has now made it clear to us that he no longer sees his future in a TSG shirt and that he absolutely wishes to accept the offer from Union Berlin, which is certainly unusual for a 32-year-old player and must be described as enormously attractive. We discussed the situation and the associated consequences and ultimately decided to let Kevin go,” explained TSG Managing Director Alexander Rosen, who went on to clarify: “We’re ambitious and need players who identify 100% with our objectives and the club. We would like to thank Kevin for seven and a half years during which he contributed to TSG’s success.”
