VfB win goal-filled spectacle against Leipzig

VfB Stuttgart put on a brilliant display at home to beat fourth-placed RB Leipzig 5-2 on Saturday.

1. FC Union Berlin

Gspurning’s New Touchline Sideline

Gspurning signed for Union in 2016, having earned three caps for Austria’s national team, and has been coaching Union’s keepers since his career ended in 2017.

VfL Wolfsburg

Third successive draw

Wolfsburg’s third match of 2024 ended in a third 1-1 draw, although unlike the two trips to Mainz and Heidenheim, it was the Wolves who came from behind against Köln. In a hard-fought contest, the first half was held up for around 15 minutes because one of the assistant referees was knocked out by a clearance from a Köln player.

Borussia Dortmund

U19s head into the season with lofty ambitions

The West German Championship has been played in a single-match round robin format lately, but the 14 teams are now set to play a season with home and away fixtures for the first time since 2019 and the outbreak of the corona pandemic. “I’m looking forward to that, the players are also looking forward to that,” assured Mike Tullberg, under whose leadership Borussia’s U19s are yet to lose a Bundesliga game. “That run will end at some point, but we want to prolong it for as long as possible,” the Dane said. Preußen Münster, Bonner SC, RW Oberhausen, RW Essen and VfB Hilden were relegated from last season’s Bundesliga West, which still consisted of 16 teams. Promoted clubs Arminia Bielefeld, Wuppertaler SV and Alemannia Aachen will complete the pool this term.

SV Werder Bremen

“We’re on a roll!”

SV Werder Bremen’s first home fixture of 2024 saw them pick up all three points in a 3-1 win over SC Freiburg. This was the Green-Whites’ second consecutive win, something which they never would have believed in the first-half of the season. Julian Malatini made his dream debut and Michael Zetterer stood between the sticks on his ninth anniversary of signing for the club. Today was “just unreal” in the words of Justin Njinmah. Head coach Ole Werner is still of the opinion, however, that “every game comes down to fine margins and we have to remain disciplined.” WERDER.DE have summarised the reaction to the win.

FC Augsburg

Thorup: “Luck wasn’t on our side today”

Ermedin Demirović: “Not getting anything from today’s game is really disappointing, but I still want to praise the whole team for this performance. Playing like that and scoring two goals against Bayern certainly isn’t a given. We fought for every ball, something that our team always does and something we need to continue doing. Scoring two goals today, including my first ever against Bayern, obviously gives me some confidence – but I’d rather have taken a point.”

Bayern Munich April 6th training update — Choupo out, Mazraoui back, Tel running & more

The big news is that young winger/forward Mathys Tel is making progress as he recovers from an adductor issue. He completed a brief individual training session, suggesting he won’t quite be ready yet for the game or games ahead.
