The 23-year-old Dane, who has been an FC Augsburg player since October 2020 and remains under contract until 30th June 2025, only featured in the DFB-Pokal defeat at Unterhaching this season. The centre-back was an unused substitute in three Bundesliga games, including the recent home match against Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
This is a bit of an older report, but full of good detail from Sky’s Florian Plettenberg, and it’s on Bayern’s interest in SSC Napoli’s Victor Osimhen. You can find the original report on sky.de.
“Joshua is a very talented central defender who still has a lot of potential and can bring us all a lot of joy at TSG in the future. That’s why we’ve decided to extend his contract long-term until 2027. In order to take the next step, he needs regular game time at the highest-possible level for his development, which we can’t guarantee him at the moment,” said Pirmin Schwegler, Head of Professional Football at TSG, who continued: “For this reason, we’ve decided to loan him to Fortuna Düsseldorf until 2025. There he will have the chance to get important minutes for a good team in the 2. Bundesliga. I’m convinced this decision will pay off for Joshua, Fortuna and for us.”
Among others, Christopher Quiring, Karim Benyamina and Christian Stuff will be on the pitch for Union.
The central defender had returned to the team earlier than expected after sustaining a knee injury in the USA. He came on for Niklas Süle, who was suffering from a minor back issue, around the half-hour mark and took no time to settle in. Schlotterbeck won every (!) challenge and boasted an outstanding pass completion ratio of 97% – as did Mats Hummels. “I came straight from warming up and fortunately they didn’t press. So it went pretty well,” he told BVB TV after the match.
March’s international break will see SV Werder Bremen play another friendly. The Green-Whites will take on second-tier Hannover 96 on Thursday, March 23rd, with the game kicking off at 13:00 CET at Hannover’s Eilenriedestadion.
After such truly awful and indefensible behavior, Musiala was put under the spotlight and criticized harshly. Then the media rushed to find out what Streich’s reaction to such a rude snub was. Luckily, Streich was entirely reasonable about the situation.
At first glance, Augsburg’s 13th place looks like a safe haven. This season, however, things are much tighter down near the basement than they were a year ago. At the same time last year, 13th-placed VfL Wolfsburg already had an eight-point lead over 17th-placed Bielefeld. FCA, on the other hand, currently have just a four-point buffer on second-last-placed Schalke 04, so every point is still vital for Augsburg over their remaining four games.
