Are Leon Goretzka’s days at Bayern Munich numbered?

Thiago Alcantara was battling through injuries and had already indicated that he might be seeking to move on, but the tandem of Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka had started to emerge as quite the partnership — one that could conceivably rule to roost for club and country.

Union Present the Champions League Shirt

Inspired by the black and gold shirts worn by the team after qualifying for the Champions League, the new kit is primarily black, with visual highlights provided by the golden accents on the shoulders and collar. The logos of the club’s partners and the club emblem also appear in this tone, thus blending into the design.

Tullberg: “The team have exceeded expectations so far”

BVB are in a good but complicated position going into the game. AC Milan currently lead Group F with six points and a goal difference of +4, followed by Borussia Dortmund (goal difference: +1) and Paris Saint-Germain (+1), but all three sides have the same points. Newcastle are still waiting for their first points of the campaign. The final standings in the group may ultimately be determined based on head-to-head records.

The reasons why Bayern Munich sacked Julian Nagelsmann

The public reason given was that the move was to protect the team’s chances at winning all three trophies this season. But that is too obvious, too facile. Every choice made at a sports club should be made to deliver better results on the pitch. There is no reason to doubt that the decision was made in the hope of better results but that tells us nothing. What we want to know is why the club decided that Nagelsmann didn’t give them the best chance of delivering optimal results.

Union Host Viktoria Berlin

The clash between Union Berlin and Viktoria Berlin has been long anticipated, as two clubs with great ambitions for the future, and the ultimate aim of promotion to the Bundesliga meet. While the hosts are relying primarily on the club’s existing structures in their professionalisation process, Viktoria are backed up by their investors. A total of 181 sponsors, including numerous public figures, have provided over 2 million euros since summer 2022.

Borussia Dortmund

Nico Schlotterbeck: “I’m expecting an intense game”

Nico Schlotterbeck on whether the group will go right down to the wire:
“I hope not. I hope we can get the job done before then. We now have to deliver two very good performances and approach the challenge with confidence. We showed what we can do in Newcastle. We’re now playing at home in front of our own fans. If we play well, then hopefully we won’t have to face a nervy final matchday.”
