There’s not long to go now until EURO 2024 kicks off in Germany, with the nations involved having now played their last friendlies before the tournament. Serbia won 3-0 in Sweden to gain some confidence, while Austria extended their unbeaten run to seven games with a 1-1 draw in Switzerland. Of Werder’s three players going to the tournament, only Romano Schmid was involved in these games, starting the third match in a row for Austria.

Nagelsmann apparently also has reservations about the Spurs job, wanting a proper Director of Football (sporting director in the German system — think Brazzo at Bayern) in charge, and assurances over the futures of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min. He would also prefer the club secure Champions League football for next season, but it isn’t a requirement. Spurs currently sit six points behind 4th placed Man United, who also have a game in hand.

Great news for Maximilian Beier, Oliver Baumann and TSG Hoffenheim: a week before the start of UEFA EURO 2024 in Germany, the two TSG first-team players can now finally look forward to the European Championship in their home country. Oliver Baumann and Maximilian Beier are in national coach Julian Nagelsmann’s final squad. Beier, who made his international debut in the 0-0 draw against Ukraine on Monday and immediately impressed, is in the squad alongside Oliver Baumann, who is still waiting to make his first appearance in the shirt of the Germany national team. Just like Beier, Baumann will be taking part in an international tournament with the senior national team for the first time. The TSG duo did not take part in the 2-1 victory against Greece.

Long before the season even began, it was expected that Union and Viktoria would once again duel for the Regionalliga Nordost title, with both clubs’ stated goals being to ultimately play in the Bundesliga. But after Viktoria came out on top last year (only to be defeated by Hamburger SV in the subsequent relegation play-off) Union currently enjoy the better position, with a three point advantage (plus a game in hand to be played at the end of April against Hertha BSC) over their city rivals.

After finishing the 2023/24 Bundesliga campaign in ninth place, SV Werder Bremen narrowly missed out on a spot in Europe.
