Asked about all of the noise about him, Müller downplayed the situation. “I’m not new to this business so it didn’t bother me too much. It was certainly exaggerated. The coach decides the lineup and distributes the roles. Of course it’s logical that every player wants to be on the pitch,” he told Sky Germany after the big win (via @iMiaSanMia).
“When Wout came to us, I said it was a significant and exceptional transfer. Today we can say that this loan was a resounding success. With his quality, his style of play and his attitude, Wout has brought in all the components that we had hoped for from him,” said Alexander Rosen, TSG’s managing director of sport. “He has made a significant contribution to ensuring that we will be represented on the European stage for the fourth time in eight years in the new season. We thank Wout from the bottom of our hearts and wish him all the best for the future.”
After returning to Berlin-Köpenick, two friendly matches are planned at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei, as previously announced.
“We have to win both games,” said Bayern sporting director Hasan “Brazzo” Salihamidžić after his team’s 6-0 win over Schalke (via @iMiaSanMia). “I watched [final matchday opponent] Köln yesterday, a really good team. I know how difficult every Bundesliga game is, especially in a situation like this. But no matter what Dortmund does, we have to win both games.”
“David came to Hoffenheim after a difficult period for him at Benfica and, after a few weeks of settling in, has shown that he can be an important factor in our play. David is a dynamic and offensively strong full-back who also knows how to defend reliably. His outstanding performances in high-profile matches, such as our away game in Leverkusen, are wonderful examples of this and make us very optimistic going into next season,” said Alexander Rosen, managing director at TSG.

“It was a good and lively start from us. The way Schalke play is very awkward for attackers because they play man to man. You don’t have a second free,” Müller explained. “But the disadvantage of this approach is that when you’ve played through this one-to-one defending with a dribble or a quick one-two, then they quickly fall apart with a good pass in behind. And when we did that, our chances were good.”
“We are always accused of having no tradition. Indeed, we don’t boast the same historical successes that other clubs have on their record books. But of course we also have a tradition, it just hasn’t been cultivated in the past,” says TSG President Kristian Baumgärtner. “The celebrations to mark our 125th anniversary are now a welcome opportunity to change that.”
