Goalkeeper Zetterer and midfielder Stage have been chosen to replace two members of last year’s team council, with Niclas Füllkrug having left the club and Christian Groß retiring. Head coach Ole Werner announced at the start of pre-season that Marco Friedl would continue to don the captain’s armband for SVW after two years in the role. “It’s important for us that every player in the team council feels like a part of the leadership group,” explained the 36-year-old. “In Zetti and Jens, we’ve found two suitable sucessors and we’re confident that they’ll be able to step up and shoulder this responsibility.”

Unlike in previous seasons, there is no official second-in-command to captain Friedl. Anyone on the team council will be able to fill this role and the vice-captain for each matchday will be decided before the respective game. No other leadership hierarchy exists beyond Friedl captaining the Green-Whites.
