Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich speaks about his World Cup pain

At least he didn’t fall into a pit though. “My three kids kept me busy. Then there are other topics. I’m someone who works things through and tries to find approaches. But the family, the close entourage helped. And we had a very long holiday, almost too long,” said Kimmich (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).

Union travel to Darmstadt

Under head coach Torsten Lieberknecht, Darmstadt finally returned to the Bundesliga this season after a six-year absence. The foundations of their ultimate promotion were laid in a strong first half of the season, which saw the Lilien top at Christmas, which they followed with a run of four wins on the bounce. Promotion was mathematically certain after 33 games, and a 1-0 home win against 1. FC Magdeburg.

VfL Wolfsburg

Ralph Hasenhüttl named as new VfL coach

Ralph Hasenhüttl has been named as the Wolves’ new head coach after signing a long-term contract at the club. The 56-year-old will oversee his first training session on Tuesday. The Austrian’s last post was at English Premier League club FC Southampton, where he held the reins between December 2018 and November 2022. A striker in his playing days, Hasenhüttl previously coached RB Leipzig and FC Ingolstadt in the Bundesliga. He helped Leipzig finish as league runners-up in the 2016/17 campaign, earning the club UEFA Champions League qualification. Before then, he steered Ingolstadt to promotion and the Bundesliga 2 title in 2014/15 and comfortably kept them in the top flight the following year.

SV Werder Bremen

Painful defeat in the capital

What a bitter afternoon for the Green-Whites. After a goalless first half, SVW fell to a 2-1 defeat against 1. FC Union Berlin on Saturday at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei. The hosts found the net twice in the space of two minutes through Vertessen (50’) and Aaronson (52’), and while Weiser was able to get one back for Werder (63’), the Green-Whites regrettably had to travel back to Bremen empty-handed.

The semi-finals and finals of the play-offs will be played on Thursday, 21st March and Tuesday, 26th March (both at 20:45 CET). The winners of the three finals will qualify for this summer’s tournament. 12 teams are taking part in the play-offs, including Ermedin Demirović’s Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Bayern Munich Alumni: Bastian Schweinsteiger pits Manchester City and AC Milan in the Champions League final

Basti was asked during an “#AskBasti” segment on Twitter and this Man City news outlet captured the 2014 World Cup winner picking Manchester United’s neighbors. However, the so-called “Schweinsteiger curse” might throw a wrench into the plans of Man City as the former German international has had a habit of supporting teams in certain games only for that team to lose. This is similar to the “Drake curse” where the Canadian rapper would wear the shirt of a certain team and that team would go on to lose their game.
