Borussia Dortmund

Goal at the death condemns U23s to defeat against Oldenburg

The scenario: The Borussia Dortmund U23s had a score to settle with VfB Oldenburg: the Black & Yellows had lost the reverse fixture against the promoted outfit in mid-September 2-1 due to a goal in stoppage time. But Oldenburg had picked up only 10 more points in their 18 games since then, dropping into bottom place in the table. VfB recently sacked Dario Fossi, the coach that had masterminded their promotion. His successor Fuat Kilic was making his dugout debut against BVB. Dortmund’s U23s went into the game on 24 points, three points and three places above the Lower Saxons.

LOOK AHEAD: Bayern Munich

It’s probably the toughest game of the season, when VfL take on Bayern Munich. The German record champions have already shaken off their competitors and are currently nine points ahead of second place – Bayern are heading for their 32nd championship, their 11th in a row. Here’s our LOOK AHEAD on Bayern Munich.

1. FSV Mainz 05

An unforgettable afternoon for Mainz

Mainz deservedly beat Bundesliga champions FC Bayern by three goals to one on Saturday afternoon after a fast and furious performance. The Zerofivers were superior in almost all departments and were the better team for 90 minutes. Despite goals from Moussa Niakhaté, Jonny Burkardt and Leandro Barreiro, Svensson’s side will be disappointed that they didn’t score more against the record champions. This was the Zerofivers’ tenth win at the MEWA ARENA this season and they now sit on 42 points after 32 games.

VfL Wolfsburg

“They made it easy for me”

After the 1-0 victory at VfB Stuttgart on Matchday 25, the majority of the Wolves squad departed for their national teams – including Felix Nmecha. Having previously represented Germany’s U21s, the 22-year-old brother of VfL striker Lukas Nmecha was not only called up to the senior squad for the first time but was also handed his international debut by Hansi Flick in the recent 3-2 defeat by Belgium. In this interview, the Wolves’ number 22 reflects on that very special moment and looks ahead to the upcoming home game against FC Augsburg.

BVB women lose 27-24 to Buxtehude

The scenario: The Borussia ladies had suffered their first defeat of the season in the reverse fixture in Buxtehude at the end of October, losing 31-30. The gap to fourth place in the table, which is currently occupied by HSG Blomberg-Lippe, had decreased to four points following the latest two defeats at home to HSG Bensheim/Auerbach and away to VfL Oldenburg.

SV Werder Bremen

“We’ve come away empty-handed again”

After SVW’s away loss against Leipzig (2-1), frustration and a loss for words were the prominent themes. Leonardo Bittencourt’s goal brought the Green-Whites very close to an away win before Willi Orban and Dominik Szoboszlai took the points away from Bremen in the final minutes. “We take a one goal lead and defend it brilliantly until the 87th minute, but in the end, we have come away empty-handed again,” said a disappointed Marvin Ducksch afterwards. Here are the reactions to the game.
