Borussia Dortmund

Best home side versus the team with the most draws

The scenario: Second against twelfth. The Black & Yellows have picked up 25 from a possible 27 points in their nine games since the winter break, while Köln have only managed a solitary point from their last four games. BVB have won just one of their last five meetings with the FC: last season’s home match.

Union Berlin will not bend the knee to Bayern Munich

While Bayern Munich might seem like a juggernaut reigning supreme over its competition, those other squads do not exactly view it that way.

RB Leipzig

How RBL can qualify for the Champions League on matchday 33

Two Bundesliga games remain | Champions League qualification possible on Friday | Three scenarios for matchday 33

1. FSV Mainz 05

Danny da Costa is returning to Mainz

Danny da Costa is returning to 1. FSV Mainz 05. The 28-year-old defender is arriving on a free transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt for the start of the 2022/2023 and has signed a contract until 2025. Da Costa, who spent six months on loan at FSV during the second half of last season, was an integral part of the side that secured Bundesliga safety in superb fashion. The defender has played 214 games in the top two divisions of German football and in the DFB-Pokal. He is also an experienced player on the European stage, with 32 Europa League appearances and two Champions League appearances under his belt.

1. FC Union Berlin

Union close season at home to Bochum

Urs Fischer’s team ran out 4-1 winners at Freiburg on Saturday to book Union’s place in European football for the second successive season. At a minimum, 1. FC Union Berlin will play in the UEFA Europa Conference League, but still have a shot at the Europa League competition. Grischa Prömel, Christopher Trimmel and Sheraldo Becker fired Union into a half-time 3-0 lead. Lucas Höler pulled one back in the second half with the confirmation of VAR, but it proved a consolation for Christian Streich’s team. Substitute Andras Schäfer capped off an incredible Saturday in the south-west of Germany with the Hungarian running through to make it 4-1.

VfL Wolfsburg

“It’ll be intense”

The Wolves return to action after the international break with a game against FC Augsburg at the Volkswagen Arena on Saturday 1 April (kick-off 15:30 CEST). While VfL were able to consolidate seventh place with victory at VfB Stuttgart on Matchday 25, FCA remain in 12th spot – ten points behind the Green-and-Whites – after being held by Schalke 04. At Friday’s pre-match press conference, VfL boss Niko Kovac discussed…

Borussia Dortmund

Goal at the death condemns U23s to defeat against Oldenburg

The scenario: The Borussia Dortmund U23s had a score to settle with VfB Oldenburg: the Black & Yellows had lost the reverse fixture against the promoted outfit in mid-September 2-1 due to a goal in stoppage time. But Oldenburg had picked up only 10 more points in their 18 games since then, dropping into bottom place in the table. VfB recently sacked Dario Fossi, the coach that had masterminded their promotion. His successor Fuat Kilic was making his dugout debut against BVB. Dortmund’s U23s went into the game on 24 points, three points and three places above the Lower Saxons.
