Bischof: “We want to give the fans a victory”

Tom, unfortunately the results have not been forthcoming in the Bundesliga in recent weeks, and the 4-3 defeat against Werder Bremen last Sunday in particular was a major disappointment for everyone. What does a bitter loss like that do to a player?

“After Stanley Nsoki was sent off, I was still quite sure that we would win the game in the end. Because up until that point, we were all completely present and playing really well; the match plan completely worked. But then we collapsed far too early, conceded the goals too quickly and simply no longer defended well enough. This simply must not happen to us – and we know that too. After the game, I felt a sense of emptiness inside of me. But we now need to put this defeat behind us, learn from it and, in a best-case scenario, do better against Dynamo Kiev in the Europa League on Thursday. We showed we can do better in the first 20 minutes against Werder. And precisely that must give us courage.

Does the Europa League perhaps also help to take your mind off it?

“It is definitely super that we can immediately show a reaction again. We have a team with a lot of quality and we want and need to bring that back onto the pitch against Kiev, and also give the fans in the stands a lift with our performance. We want to make some amends as a team, even if it is a different competition.”

What kind of game are you expecting against Dynamo Kyiv?

“It could become very unpleasant. We simply need to do our own thing on the ball and show our qualities on the pitch, then we can also win the match against Kyiv. That is our big objective, because we want to give the fans a victory.”
