The Executive Committee of 1. FC Union Berlin has decided to restructure the business divisions within the club for the start of the season.

With immediate effect, the club’s non-sporting operations will be organised into four business divisions instead of the previous seven. The Licensing and Finance divisions will be merged to form the Finance division, under the responsibility of Executive Committee member Oskar Kosche. Thomas Stäpke, previously Managing Director of Financing, will act as Chief Representative within the Finance division.

The former Corporate Development and Marketing & Sales divisions will also be merged. Bernd von Geldern will take over the management of the newly created Marketing division with the sub-divisions Sponsoring, Merchandising, Sales Marketing and Corporate Development. This division will also include the previously independent digital division. This department will continue to be managed by Anja Kasper within the Marketing division.

The former Organisation and Administration division will be renamed Matchday Operations and Organisation and will be managed by Pierre Lüttge. In addition to matchday organisation, this division also includes fan and member services, fan support, ticketing and IT services.

The Communications division, which focuses on professional football and corporate communications, remains unchanged and is headed by Christian Arbeit. AFTV, graphics, social media and club history are also part of this division.

Katharina Kienemann and Jan Boysen will be responsible for the implementation, development and marketing of events at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei from 1 July.

“After the rapid growth in recent years, it was important for us to review and partially streamline our structure,” said Union president, Dirk Zingler, on the decision. “As a medium-sized company in the legal form of a registered non-profit organisation, we need to be efficient and quick in our decision-making. We remain aspiring and ambitious and see ourselves as being well positioned with our new structure to be able to see all our teams play successful football.”
