Liverpool attacking midfielder Fabio Carvalho is set to leave Anfield on a permanent basis after just one season at the club, according to reports.

The Portugal under-21 international joined Liverpool last summer from Fulham but has struggled to make his mark at Anfield this season.

Carvalho has been restricted to just four Premier League starts this campaign with Jurgen Klopp limiting him to 21 appearances in all competitions.

but hinted at a temporary transfer on loan.

“I think there is a possibility Fabio could go on loan, but we will see. This was not the best year of his career, his young career,” Klopp told a press conference.

“No player has impressed me more than Fabio, that’s the truth. This very talented boy came here with big dreams and big expectations and it didn’t work out. His work ethic will give him a fantastic career.

“His reactions in a row [to not playing], I’ve never seen before, unbelievable.

“If we keep him, that’s all we will see. There are no plans for loans, we want to keep them if we can give them the opportunity to play, we’ll keep them because they definitely have the quality.”

And now Football Insider claims that sources have told them that Carvalho ‘is prepared to reluctantly accept a permanent departure from Liverpool this summer and has already been the subject of a big-money bid from an unnamed Champions League club’.

It doesn’t matter if Carvalho impresses in pre-season as the report adds that the 20-year-old has been ‘told that he will not be part of Jurgen Klopp’s first-team plans for the 2023-24 campaign’.

Premier League sides West Ham United, Brentford and Burnley were ‘among those interested’ in taking Carvalho on loan until the end of next season but the former Fulham starlet ‘harbours concerns over whether he would earn regular minutes during a temporary stay at any of those clubs’.

Carvalho ideally wants to remain at Anfield and attempt to force his way into Klopp’s side but a transfer to a ‘mystery foreign club who lodged a bid for his services over a month ago is currently viewed as a more appealing next step’ than going out on loan.
