Incoming manager Mauricio Pochettino will need ‘a miracle’ to convince Mason Mount to remain at Chelsea, according to reports.
The England international’s contract will run out at the end of June 2024 and there are a number of clubs interested in buying Mount for a reduced fee this summer.
Widespread reports over the last couple of days have confirmed that former Tottenham boss Pochettino has agreed terms to become the new manager once the season is over.
Previous reports have indicated that Pochettino to take Chelsea forward with the Argentina a fan of his ‘ability on the ball’ and ‘work ethic’, while the academy graduate will ‘suit the style he wants to implement’.
But Arsenal and Liverpool are particularly interested in Mount this summer with Chelsea so far unable to persuade the 24-year-old to commit his future to the club.
And The Sun claims that Pochettino ‘faces a massive uphill battle to keep’ Mount at Stamford Bridge this summer with Pochettino seeing the midfielder’s ‘contract stand-off as one of his main priorities when he takes over at the end of this season’.
Pochettino’s imminent appointment has come ‘too late to save negotiations’ with Mount ‘set to leave’ and Pochettino will now need ‘a miracle’ to turn the situation around.
A source told The Sun: “It feels like it is too late now for Mason. Pochettino is good but he can’t work miracles.
“If he had been brought in when Chelsea sacked Thomas Tuchel in September then maybe it would be a different story.
“But in ten months there hasn’t been any resolution and other clubs want him. Good luck to Poch and Mason but we’re not hopeful.”
