Frank Lampard has given his reaction to Chelsea losing 2-0 to Real Madrid at the Bernabeu, a game Los Blancos dominated for most of the 90 minutes.

The Blues started the game on the front foot and had the first big chance, with N’Golo Kante leading a quick counter-attack before threading a ball through to Joao Felix, who forced a good save from Thibaut Courtois.

However, Madrid gradually grew into the game and unsurprisingly, it was Karim Benzema who opened the scoring.

A lovely chipped through ball from Dani Carvajal found Vinicius Junior, whose shot was parried out by Kepa Arrizabalaga and straight into the path of Benzema, who made no mistake from 3 yards out.

Chelsea managed to keep the score line at 1-0 until half time, but struggled to create any clear-cut chances.

Then, in the 59th minute, matters were made worse for Lampard after Ben Chilwell brought down Rodrygo as he was through on goal – deservedly receiving a red card.

The London club showed some fight at the back but ultimately the pressure told and Marco Asensio finished off a relatively simple corner routine to make it 2-0.

Chelsea now have a major challenge on their hands to turn over a 2-0 deficit at Stamford Bridge, but Lampard has remained positive, adding that ‘special things can happen at Stamford Bridge.’

“I’m proud of the 10 men. The disappointing thing is we give away a set-piece and switch off. I don’t think they carved us open at 10 men,” Lampard said.

“That was due to spirit. We had our chances – Joao Felix, Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount.

“Some good things but the result is the reality. Special things can happen at Stamford Bridge. We have to believe.

“There is a lot there for us, as good a team as they are. There’s a bit of a lack of belief. The players don’t know how good they are.

“There was some good in there. Next week will be a big fight.”

“There are some details and mindset stuff, we have to be more positive. If we do that… I’ve been involved in those nights at Stamford Bridge. We keep going.”
