Tottenham reportedly see Gavin Bazunu as a ‘strong candidate’ to replace Hugo Lloris as first choice stopper, despite the Southampton star being statistically the worst goalkeeper in the Premier League.

Bazunu was relegated with the Saints on Saturday after the 2-0 defeat to Fulham at St Mary’s, a year on from his £13m move from Manchester City.

Spurs are on the lookout for a replacement for Hugo Lloris, who has a year left on his current deal and has come under criticism for a series of mistakes for the north Londoners this season.

At 36 the former France international’s days are thought to be numbered and it’s thought he could accept a mega-contract offer from Saudi Arabia and up sticks this summer.

And Football Insider reckon Spurs see Bazunu as the long-term solution, and are preparing a £15m bid.

They ‘regard Bazunu as a strong candidate to take over the number one shirt next season from Hugo Lloris’ having ‘kept tabs’ on the Republic of Ireland international for much of the season.

It’s claimed he ‘fits the profile’ of new recruits for Spurs, where there will be ‘an emphasis on rising stars with the potential develop under the new manager’ – not that they seem to have a f***ing clue who that might be.

The report further adds that Spurs are pursuing Bazunu after ‘his impressive breakthrough campaign’, which makes you wonder exactly what they’ve found impressive.

According to , Bazunu is the very worst of the 26 Premier League goalkeepers, and by quite some distance, with a score of -16.6.

After a superb year in League One with Portsmouth last year, it appears the Premier League step was too much too soon for Bazunu, which probably means European football – should Spurs get there – would be too.

Lloris is currently out injured for Spurs with Fraser Forster standing in for the World Cup winning captain.

There were some conspiracy theorists claiming Lloris’ injury was well-timed given how torrid a time he had faced in the first half against Newcastle last month, with Spurs 5-0 down after 21 minutes, but Tottenham insisted the injury was ‘legitimate’.
