Man Utd would have to complete a ‘turnaround’ if they are to move for Declan Rice this summer with staff split on his signing, according to reports.

Rice has been linked with the Red Devils, Arsenal and Bayern Munich over the last few months with the West Ham midfielder’s future still unclear.

with Mikel Arteta’s side running Man City close in the Premier League title race.

Rice – who has spoken of his desire to play Champions League football as soon as possible – has been brilliant for West Ham over the last few seasons with his performances for England particularly catching the eye of suitors around Europe.

with the German champions looking to strengthen their midfield this summer.

Man Utd have also been linked with Rice for a long time and the England international has been on their shortlist for a long time now – but The Athletic claim that a lack of ‘consensus’ at Old Trafford will probably see him move elsewhere.

A report in The Athletic explained:

‘Manchester United have long tracked Rice but, in previous windows, their recruitment staff failed to come to a consensus about a move — especially given West Ham’s stance that he was not for sale.

‘They are keeping abreast of Rice’s situation going into the summer, but the fee being quoted and manager Erik ten Hag’s priorities lying elsewhere mean a turnaround is required for a formal approach from Old Trafford to follow.’

Harry Maguire is one player who could be leaving Man Utd this summer with the captain moving down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag.

The Dutchman’s preferred centre-back pairing, when fit, has been Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane this season with Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw regularly starting ahead of Maguire.

That has led to rumours that a number of clubs would be willing to take Maguire off Man Utd’s hands this summer and that the Red Devils could have to pay as much as £10m of his wages to get him off their books.

Maguire apparently wants to continue his journey at Man Utd but Gareth Southgate’s recent comments over his future in the England team could change his mind.

The Athletic added:

‘Maguire has shown a determination to fight for his place at United, and he takes great pride in being captain. One source with understanding of the situation said his intention is to stay at Old Trafford.

‘But Gareth Southgate’s comments at his latest squad announcement made clear that further time spent on the bench will put his place in the England team in jeopardy, and that could bring the issue to the forefront.’
