Erik ten Hag is reportedly ‘hell bent’ on Man Utd strengthening in midfield this summer and they have identified James Ward-Prowse as a potential target.

The Red Devils have spent over £200m on new signings. Antony, Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez were their most expensive additions.

Ten Hag has done a positive job this season, but Man Utd is still far from having a squad capable of regularly challenging for the Premier League title.

The Dutchman has reportedly already made it clear that

In terms of their own transfer targets, are in the market for a new striker, right-back and centre-midfielder.

In the middle of the pitch, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen have been brilliant this season. But United require more options in that position as the team’s performances have declined when they have been unavailable.

Football Insider are reporting that Man Utd have ‘turned their attention’ to Ward-Prowse as the Southampton man has emerged as a ‘summer target’.

Ten Hag is understood to be ‘hell bent’ on Man Utd ‘bolstering their midfield options in the transfer window’.

The report notes Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Aston Villa are also ‘interested’ in the England international.

Southampton will ‘find it difficult’ to keep Ward-Prowse if they are relegated at the end of the season. They are currently four points adrift of safety with nine games to go.

Man Utd are seemingly keeping their options open when it comes to which striker they will sign to replace loan star, Wout Weghorst.

Harry Kane, Goncalo Ramos, Victor Osimhen and Randal Kolo Muani are understood to be among their targets.

“You’re talking about a Manchester United No.10 or a centre-forward, he’s in the team to be defensive. He’s the one who runs about and rats about and everybody likes playing with him because he does that.

“But quality-wise as well you’ve got to have a certain level of quality to play for Man United… it’s not there.

“Look, I don’t want to be too disrespectful. I don’t want to be too disrespectful to the team because they’ve been great, they’ve just won a trophy.

“I keep saying the word ‘freakish’, that is a really freakish day that, that is a really freakish day. I think they’ve got the experience, the character, the quality in the team to recover from that.”
