Alan Shearer insists Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah “won’t sleep tonight” after watching him miss a number of big chances in their 3-1 defeat to Manchester City.

, as Arsenal slipped out of the top spot they had occupied since the third week of the season.

Bukayo Saka’s penalty spot-kick had levelled after Kevin De Bruyne had struck first for Manchester City, but goals from Jack Grealish and Haaland secured the three points for Guardiola’s side.

Nketiah could’ve given Arsenal the lead before De Bruyne’s opener with the former England under-21 international heading Oleksandr Zinchenko’s brilliant cross wide.

And in the 89th minute he had a chance to get Arsenal back in the game but he headed another good opportunity wide of the post.

Talking about Nketiah’s miss in the first-half, Shearer said on Amazon: “He doesn’t get the connection.

“I think he hits it with the shoulder rather than the forehead that he was trying to connect with to guide it in.

“He won’t sleep tonight. But you have always got the chance to rectify your mistake and three days’ time he will hopefully put on in the back of the net and he won’t remember this.”

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville was less than impressed by what he saw from Arsenal as they failed to “show up” on the night.

“So surprised how Arsenal have been second half!” tweeted Neville. “Looks too much for them! 20mins to show up!”

And Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta pointed to their lack of a ruthless streak in front of goal as one of the biggest reasons for losing against City on Wednesday.

“We are all feeling down, especially because they knew we could do much better today to get a very different result and we just give them the game,” Arteta said.

“We have to pick the points because the performances are there for sure. What we’ve done today against this team, believe me that wasn’t the game that they wanted to play.

“That’s what we have to improve on.”
