Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Alexis Mac Allister with the Reds ‘willing to throw’ £70m at Brighton for his signing, according to reports.

The Reds finished the season on Sunday with with Jurgen Klopp’s side finishing fifth.

That means Liverpool will be competing in the Europa League next season, and not the Champions League, with that potentially making it harder to attract the best players.

It unlikely to put off Mac Allister, though, with all recent reports pointing to a quick conclusion as all parties want to get a deal done early on in the transfer window.

Ahead of Brighton’s final match of the Premier League season against Aston Villa, : “Alexis Mac Allister, expected to bid his farewell to Brighton fans after final game after his fantastic experience at the club since 2020 #BHAFC

“He’s prepared to leave the club in June with Liverpool frontrunners — close to complete the deal, waiting on final details #LFC”

And now Spanish publication Fichajes insists that €80m (£70m) is the ‘crazy price’ that Liverpool ‘will pay’ for the Argentina midfielder this summer.

Mac Allister has had a brilliant season for Brighton, with the Seagulls qualifying for Europe for the first time in their history, while he also won the World Cup with Argentina in the winter.

Liverpool ‘have already started the first contacts with Brighton to send them that offer of’ €80m and Mac Allister will become ‘the most expensive sale in the history of  Brighton’.

Klopp is also looking to improve his defence in the summer transfer market with a number of players linked – but one player who won’t be moving to Anfield is Perr Schuurs.

Fichajes says in a separate report that Schuurs ‘has decided to stay in Torino beyond this season’ and, despite , is now ‘unlikely to join the English club’.

It comes as ‘a blow to Liverpool’ with Klopp looking to provide Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk with better competition ahead of next campaign.

Taylor told GiveMeSport: “It’s hard to say really. I think ultimately it will hinge on whether any options arrive on the table for him. I think Liverpool would probably be open to losing him and replacing him if they had a chance to get a decent fee.”
