Former Tottenham and West Ham boss Harry Redknapp will come out of retirement to manage Leeds United if he’s asked to, according to reports.
Leeds have had a series of setbacks in their bid to make a swift appointment after at the start of last week.
Under-21s boss Michael Skubala, development coach Paco Gallardo and Chris Armas, appointed as Leeds’ assistant head coach shortly before Marsch’s dismissal, have taken charge of the club’s last two Premier League fixtures.
And the Yorkshire club confirmed on Tuesday that Skubala would remain in charge for the time being as they continue their search for the right manager.
Leeds wrote in a statement: “Leeds United can confirm Michael Skubala will continue to lead the men’s first team for the club’s upcoming fixtures.
“Paco Gallardo and Chris Armas will carry on supporting Michael, alongside the backroom team already in place.
“Skubala, Gallardo and Armas have overseen two positive performances over the last week against Manchester United and will lead training ahead of this weekend’s Premier League game against Everton at Goodison Park.”
Leeds are yet to be close to appointing a new manager with former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo, Steven Gerrard and Skubala amongst the favourites for the job.
And now the Daily Mirror claim that Redknapp has told Leeds ‘he is open to sensational return to management’ if they ‘ask him to come out of retirement’.
The report in the newspaper adds that Skubala ‘lacks experience and Redknapp is willing to step in to take the job until the end of the season’.
Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson doesn’t think Marsch deserved to get the sack at Leeds and thinks the club have been “unlucky” this season.
Merson said on Sky Sports: “I can’t believe what’s happened at Leeds. I cannot believe what they’ve done.
“They’ve got back-to-back matches coming up against Manchester United in the space of four days and they’ve sacked the manager.
Merson added: “It feels like Leeds are one of those teams that if they click, they’ll be difficult to face. I still can’t see them going down.
“I really thought Leeds were doing alright this season, but they just needed that bit of luck to go their way. Every team needs luck. Arsenal need a bit of luck to be where they are.
“Things can change really quickly.
“In my opinion, I really think players get you the sack. There are times when you look at a group of players during a game and you can tell they don’t fancy it.
“But the Leeds players seemed to be running around for the manager. They couldn’t give any more really, but I just cannot believe the decision Leeds have taken.”
