Steve Nicol thinks that Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold will be in for a tough game when Liverpool face Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Jurgen Klopp’s side managed to make it back-to-back wins in the league .

Liverpool’s defensive problems have been well-documented this season as the likes of Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk have struggled to reach their previous levels.

, although Nicol still believes Alexander-Arnold will struggle.

“Listen, Alexander-Arnold today, when Saint-Maximin came inside because they were down to ten men, he must have been thinking ‘thank you very much’, because he had no idea what was going on,” the pundit told ESPN.

“And that’s against a guy who can be good. The difference between Saint-Maximin and Vini, I’m sorry they’re a world apart.

“He knows what he’s doing. Vini’s got the confidence and the football brain to take advantage of situations against Alexander-Arnold.

“If he gets as much of the ball as he did in this game against Osasuna, then there could be trouble.”

Liverpool have been far from their best in the Premier League, but they do have a knack for turning it on in the Champions League.

Vinicius Junior is one of the most in-form wingers in Europe right now and Alexander-Arnold will have a huge job on his hands to keep him quiet over two legs.

The Brazilian winger has scored 16 goals this season and will surely fancy his chances against a leaky Liverpool backline.

Alexander-Arnold himself has looked more confident recently and he was in good spirits following Liverpool’s latest triumph.

“We got our win against Everton, that was a massive one for us as well. It would have meant nothing if we’d come here and hadn’t backed it up with another win,” the defender told Sky Sports.

“We’re used to going on winning streaks throughout seasons, we know how to put them together. It’s starting to feel – and look – like the Liverpool team that we’re used to.

“There are positive signs. There’s things we can look at and get better at, it’s a great stepping stone for us.”
