Former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann is still keen to take charge of Chelsea in the summer, according to reports in Germany.

The Blues sacked Graham Potter on Sunday after their 2-0 defeat at home to Aston Villa with coach Bruno Saltor taking charge of .

It was only seven months ago Chelsea spent a British record of £21.5million to prize Potter and his backroom staff away from Brighton not long after Todd Boehly and his Clearlake Capital consortium completed their purchase of the west London club.

While results have been poor and Potter won only four of his last 19 Premier League fixtures, the decision to part ways means Frank Lampard will get another chance to manage his former club.

Widespread reports have indicated that Lampard has agreed to return to Stamford Bridge in an interim role until the end of the season, when Chelsea plan to hire a new permanent manager.

There have been a number of names mooted as potential candidates with Nagelsmann and former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique the two favourites to take charge in the summer.

that Enrique was travelling down to London for more talks after ‘impressing in initial discussions’ with the Chelsea hierarchy.

Despite that, Sky Germany insist that Nagelsmann is ‘still a candidate’ and is ‘in high demand for the coaching position from summer’.

And the report adds that ‘talks between the representatives of the former Bayern Munich coach and Chelsea are said to be positive’ with Nagelsmann making it clear to them that managing in the Premier League is ‘his next goal’.

Lampard is yet to taste big success as a manager with Everton sacking him in January after less than a year in charge at Goodison Park.

And the former Chelsea boss would make the Blues “an even bigger laughing stock” if they appoint him as interim boss, according to former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan.

Jordan said on talkSPORT: “I think it would be laughable. I think Frank Lampard was an abject failure towards the end at Everton.

“I think the culture at Chelsea was poor towards the end [of Lampard’s tenure]. Player’s that have now gone, I grant you Rudiger, Frank marginalised.

“I’m sorry, Frank’s a nice fella but that’s irrelevant.”
