Ex-Manchester United defender Gary Neville thinks some former Tottenham players need “perspective” on the club’s current position.

Spurs parted company with Antonio Conte during the international break and appointed Cristian Stellini as interim manager until the end of the season.

The north Londoners took the decision to agree Conte’s departure after and had a pop at the Tottenham hierarchy for the culture at the club.

But, despite Stellini taking charge, Spurs delivered another disappointing performance on Monday as after Harry Kane had given Tottenham the lead from the penalty spot.

Jamie O’Hara and Jermaine Jenas were among the former Spurs players to voice their frustation after the match but Neville called on them to have some more “perspective”.

“Interesting seeing ex-Spurs players that never got near to Champions League places for years when they played for the club saying they can’t watch this current team now,” Neville tweeted.

“Spurs are in fourth place currently ahead of Chelsea , Manchester United and Liverpool. Perspective!”

Following the draw against the Toffees which saw Spurs cling on to a top four spot, O’Hara said: “What a joke! I’m boiling and I know Spurs fans are absolutely boiling. It was a disgrace that last 15 minutes of that game. They should be ashamed of themselves to be walking into the dressing room at 1-1.

“What an earth are them players doing? [Antonio] Conte came in for a load of stick and how he said what he said and where he said what he said was wrong, but what is 100 per cent correct is this team has no desire, they can’t play under pressure.

“They are finished, they’ve got no character, they’re washed as a team. The quicker we get rid of all these bang average players and staff members and team the better Spurs are going to be. That sums up Spurs in a nutshell – what an earth are we doing? I’m sick of being a Spurs fan. I’m sick of it.”

Speaking of Tottenham’s performance, Neville added: “They were okay. Okay – nothing spectacular. They’ve been a bit dour to watch for quite a long time, the spark isn’t there with Son, with Kulusevski and Kane as we’ve seen in previous seasons. Something’s missing – the quality through midfield.

“To be fair to Hojbjerg and Skipp, they’re workmanlike, they do a good job but they don’t deliver good passes forward, they don’t like the players together like midfielders in a lot of teams do. I said before the game the wing-backs are of the quality to play in that sort of system, I think it’s a really difficult position to play with a lot of expectation.

“Going forward and defensively I don’t believe Spurs have the best wing-backs. Defensively they look a little bit drained, like they’ve had the energy sapped off them. They competed but the big point Stellini made there was that they should have really seen the game out when they went one nil up – the game management wasn’t good enough.”
