Jose Mourinho has reportedly ‘received a call’ from Chelsea with a view to him making a shock return to the Premier League club this summer.

The 60-year-old has already had two spells in charge of Chelsea. He has helped them win the Premier League three times and under him, they also lifted the FA Cup and League Cup.

His second reign at Chelsea came to an end in December 2015. He has since gone on to manage Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Mourinho departed Tottenham towards the end of the 2021/22 campaign and he has subsequently returned to Italy to take over at Roma.

The Portuguese manager has largely done a positive job at Roma. He helped them win the UEFA Europa Conference League last season and they are currently battling for a spot in the Champions League. They are level on points with fourth-placed Inter Milan and one point adrift of third-placed AC Milan.

Mourinho has been linked with a return to the Premier League in recent days.

Chelsea are on the lookout for a new permanent after the club dismissed Graham Potter.

Relevo are reporting that Todd Boehly’s list of managerial candidates is ‘long’. Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique are ‘options’ for the Premier League club.

But Chelsea’s hierarchy have reportedly have ‘also contacted’ Mourinho and former Tottenham and Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo.

Santo joining Chelsea would likely cause a more severe backlash from Chelsea fans, but either appointment would be hilarious for neutrals.

The report adds Mourinho has ‘received a call’ from Chelsea. It is claimed that the board feel he and Santo could get the best out of Joao Felix and Thiago Silva, as ‘the presence of Portuguese or Spanish-speakers fits with the language of both managers’.

A separate report from Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport claims Mourinho could become the highest-paid manager ever if becomes the manager of Saudi Arabia’s national team.

Mourinho reportedly could earn £100m by managing Saudi Arabia’s national team for two years. This is split into £50m a year and he would have the option to terminate his contract at the end of the first year or he may choose to extend it by a further year until 2026.
