Man Utd are reportedly ‘plotting’ a deal for Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos, who is viewed as an ‘alternative’ to Tottenham forward Harry Kane.

It is well-known that Man Utd are in the market for a new striker heading into the summer transfer window.

This comes after Cristiano Ronaldo left the club in December. Wout Weghorst was brought in on loan but he is set to be replaced before next season.

Man Utd are understood to be looking at several targets. Kane may be on the market as his contract is due to expire in 2024.

If he does not pen an extension,

Football Insider are reporting United ‘are plotting a summer deal for Benfica star Ramos if they fail in their pursuit of Tottenham’s Kane’.

The Portugal international is viewed as a ‘contingency option’ in case they are unable to snatch Kane from Tottenham.

Ramos’ current contract – which expires in 2026 – includes a £105m release clause. But it is believed that Benfica will accept a bid of around £70m’.

A separate report from Ben Jacobs has delved into Man Utd’s interest in Kane.

Jacobs thinks Man Utd “might be serious about Kane” and they are “working out where they stand on the player’s side”.

“With Kane, I think again, the Spurs project has to settle. The new manager has to become apparent,” Jacobs wrote for TEAMtalk.

“So Tottenham have always wanted to extend Harry Kane and Kane’s always had the willingness to sign a new deal. But we’ve had another twist now, and there’s no permanent manager. And there’s uncertainty on the recruitment side because of the Paratici ban, and they may not get Champions League football.

“Everything Manchester United are doing might be serious about Kane, but it’s kind of internal. And it’s kind of working out where they stand on the player’s side.

“There’s nothing advanced on the Spurs to Manchester United side. And there’s still that fear that you’ve got to negotiate with Daniel Levy regardless who, if he was to sanction a sale to a Premier League rival, is going to be asking, as I’ve said many times before, for £100million plus.”
