Sofyan Amrabat has been ‘promised’ by Fiorentina that they will listen to offers this summer after they rejected a bid from Man Utd in the winter transfer window, the midfielder’s agent has revealed.
The Moroccan midfielder is a reported transfer target for Tottenham, Liverpool, Barcelona, Man Utd, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid following his stellar showing at last year’s World Cup.
Amrabat was excellent for Morocco as they became the first African team to reach the semi-final of a World Cup.
They were knocked out by runners-up France before losing the third-place play-off to 2018 finalists Croatia.
Fiorentina were forced to fend off plenty of interest in their midfielder when the January transfer window opened.
Liverpool – who are in dire need of midfield reinforcements – seemed like a good place for Amrabat to ply his trade, but the Serie A club were reluctant to sell mid-season.
A winter bid from the Reds was never reported from a reliable outlet or journalist – to my knowledge anyway – but it was claimed by The New York Times that .
It was also reported that La Liga leaders Barcelona tried to sign Amrabat on loan until the end of the season, which Fiorentina unsurprisingly turned down.
The player’s agent has now given some insight into what happened in January. Mohamed Sinouh has said Fiorentina rejected mid-season offers from Barca and Man Utd.
“We received many offers during the winter transfer window, including one from Manchester United, but we couldn’t finalise the deal,” Salah reportedly told Kora Plus (via Football Italia).
“Barcelona? Fiorentina’s President refused to sell him at that moment as he represented an added value after what he had done at the World Cup.”
Amrabat – who is under contract until June 2024 – will probably depart this summer, however.
His agent has revealed there are “no proposals” on the table but Fiorentina have made a “promise” to listen to offers.
“It’s a promise they made after the President refused all offers in the winter transfer window.”
Meanwhile, a report from Foot Mercato states that .
Amrabat’s brother, Nordin, recently said that he hoped a move to Catalonia would materialise in January.
He said: “Barca were willing to pay a good purchase option, so Sofyan really hoped the deal would be done. But Fiorentina said: ‘No, no way. You’re one of our most important players, we’re not going to let you go now. In the summer, we can discuss a transfer.’
“If FC Barcelona comes forward, you want to take the plunge. And if Barcelona don’t buy you, someone else will.”
