Liverpool’s forward trio are “younger, faster and stronger” than the famous Fab Three according to Troy Deeney, who likened one of the newboys to Premier League legend Thierry Henry.
New signings Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez both scored twice with old hand Mohamed Salah also notching a brace in the .
Roberto Firmino, who this week announced that he would be leaving the club after eight years of service, came off the bench to put the icing on the cake for Liverpool.
Firmino will be following Sadio Mane out of the club, after the Senegal international joined Bayern Munich in the summer, with just Salah remaining of the Fab Three who have torn defences apart in combination throughout Jurgen Klopp’s reign.
But Deeney reckons Liverpool are in better shape now with Gakpo and Nunez up top with Salah.
“They’re younger, faster and stronger than the last front three. Gakpo through the middle is like a new 2.0 of Bobby Firmino,” the former Watford striker said on Match of the Day 2.
“The three of them occupy the top line. [Gakpo] is like a young Thierry Henry there with his finish.
“The three of them occupy that backline and the best thing is there is always one in the middle of the goal. This is Liverpool for me at their best.”
Klopp will now be hoping to see Gakpo and Nunez enjoy similar success alongside Salah, and the Reds boss was delighted with what he saw on Sunday.
“No words, spectacular football game,” he said on Sky Sports.
“We played top football against a team in form. First half got a bit wild in a way we didn’t want, then we score this incredible goal [through Gakpo], what a pass what a finish.
“Second half, the start was pretty good, everything was pretty good. United have had a super season we are not happy with our season but in this game that doesn’t mean anything.
“Important three points. Its important we really perform. Top performance from everybody.”
