Klopp claims Liverpool ‘still really attractive’ to top players as he makes Salah prediction

Jurgen Klopp claims that Liverpool is still “really attractive to a lot of players” as he prepares to enter the summer transfer market.

The Reds are planning for a busy summer with Liverpool expected to bring in reinforcements in midfield and defence, while a number of players could move on.

Liverpool have had a poor season by their standards with Klopp’s men marooned below the European spots for much of the season – but six wins from their last six Premier League matches has given them a great chance of making the Champions League.

Back-to-back defeats for Manchester United against Brighton and West Ham means , who have a game in hand on the Reds.

Liverpool travel to Leicester City on Monday and will be hoping Wolves can take points off Man United at Old Trafford tomorrow but Klopp reckons a move to Anfield is still attractive even without Champions League football.

Klopp told a press conference on Friday: “When I talk to a player – if I’m allowed to talk to a player – we cannot say in the moment if we have Champions League football. So, if we re already talking, then it is already clear that he already knows about that situation.

“But it’s just a general thing. I think if you join a club, you reach something together with the club. It’s obvious we have to be part of the Champions League, fight for trophies and these kind of things. If you want to be part of that, you’re more than welcome. We cannot guarantee this year Champions League football.

“But all the rest is the same as before: a fantastic club with a really good football team – and a better one hopefully next year. It’s really that simple. Still Liverpool. We’re really attractive to a lot of players.”

Mo Salah scored his 100th goal at Anfield last Saturday as Liverpool beat Brentford in the Premier League, taking his tally to 30 goals in 48 appearances in all competitions this season.

On whether Salah’s achievements will be overlooked this year, Klopp replied: “No. Not from us. Not from the Liverpool supporters. Maybe from you? I don’t know.

“A lot of time, they will be an all-time great after they finish their career but he is still in his career. If you see Mo everyday, you will see there are still a good few years in his legs and in his body, and the numbers will still improve, and that’s absolutely great.

“We don’t overlook it but questions asked that often, you might be guilty to overlook it.”

On whether the recent run of form has set the tone for next season, Klopp continued: “Yes, it’s a must. When you have just played a bad season, like we did until a few weeks ago (with some highlights), it makes it even more difficult to understand. It makes me even more angry. We can play like this but most of the time we played like that, so that’s really not good.

“That’s why it’s so important we started it early and not play a season and end up in position 10 or 11. Everyone knows we are going in the right direction and it’s really helpful.”
