Jose Enrique was left disappointed with Liverpool’s performance against Real Madrid, but he did pick out the two players who impressed him.
Liverpool knew they faced an uphill battle after the first leg and
Jurgen Klopp’s side will now switch their attention back to the Premier League as they will be targeting a top four spot.
Enrique gave his thoughts on the game and picked out the two players who had impressed him on the night.
“Very poor performance from us I expected a lot more, I didn’t expect us to turn it around obviously that was a 1% chance,” Enrique said on his Instagram.
“But you really believe that the players will want it a lot more than this and it’s a very poor performance.
“The only ones I can save here is [Ibrahima] Konate and Alisson [Becker].
“Alisson saved from us from action losing by three or four, so it is what it is, we have to try and focus and forget about it.
“We have to try and finish in the top four even if I believe it’s going to be very, very tough and very unlikely actually.”
The Brazilian goalkeeper was kept on his toes throughout the game and there was little he could do about Karim Benzema’s goal.
In total, Alisson made six saves and was without a doubt Liverpool’s best player.
Real Madrid posed plenty of questions for the Liverpool back line and
“The problem they’ve got in that position is they’ve never really had real competition for Trent Alexander-Arnold,” Carragher told CBS Sports.
“But I think Liverpool are at the point now where they’ve got to go and buy a right-back. That’s Jurgen Klopp’s decision in terms of how good that right-back is, how much he costs.
“But that lad needs serious competition because he’s been playing now for five years at the top level, week in week out, with no rest.”
Liverpool have a tough run of fixtures coming up in the Premier League as they face Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal next.
As things stand, they are sixth in the table and are six points behind Tottenham with a game in hand.
