The father of Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister is travelling to the UK to discuss his son’s potential departure from the Amex at the end of the season, according to reports.

The 24-year-old caught worldwide attention after putting in some fine performances for Argentina in the World Cup, as they lifted it for the first time since 1986.

Mac Allister has also been in fine form in the Premier League this season and now, multiple top European clubs are interested in signing him.

According to journalist Gaston Edul, Mac Allister’s father, Carlos, will discuss the future with his son over a potential summer transfer.

It is believed that the player is keen to leave Brighton, with the report claiming he has ‘multiple options’ on the table.

Edul does not name the teams in question, but , Chelsea, Arsenal, Atletico Madrid and Juventus all registering an interest in the midfielder.

His father is well-known in Argentine football, playing for multiple top flight teams, and will certainly use his experience to guide Mac Allister on his next steps.

While Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi would definitely prefer to keep Mac Allister at the club, after signing him for just £7.1m in 2019, they look set to make a tidy profit on him, if he does choose to leave.

The Argentine took some time to acclimatise to the Premier League, initially going out on loan to Argentinos Juniors and Boca Juniors (where his father played), before solidifying his spot in the Seagull’s starting XI.

So far, Mac Allister has made 92 appearances across all competitions for Brighton, scoring 15 goals and making six assists.

He is also versatile, in that he can play in a defensive, central and attacking midfield role, so it’s unsurprising to see so much interest in his signature.

As mentioned, he put in some stunning performances in the Qatar World Cup last year, as Argentina won the competition. In six appearances, Mac Allister scored one goal against Poland, before making an all-important assist in the final against France, as well as scoring his penalty in the shootout.

However, De Zerbi and co may yet decide to sell Mac Allister while his price is at a premium, with Transfermarkt valuing him at £42m.

For now, the Argentine’s focus will be solely on doing the best he can for Brighton, who currently sit in sixth place in the Premier League table after a fantastic start.

If they can qualify for the Europa League or even the Champions League next season, it’s possible that Mac Allister could be convinced to stay for another campaign.
