Jamie Carragher thinks Chelsea owner Todd Boehly made a “ridiculous decision” to appoint Graham Potter after sacking Thomas Tuchel.

just 206 days after replacing Tuchel – who is now Bayern Munich boss – as the Blues manager following .

The former Brighton boss only won 12 of his 31 matches in charge of the club with Aston Villa leapfrogging them on Sunday and pushing Potter’s side into the bottom half.

Three consecutive victories before the international break, including a Champions League win over Borussia Dortmund, gave fans hope that they had turned a corner under Potter – but defeat at home to Unai Emery’s men was the final straw.

There has been sympathy for Potter with the Englishman expected to gel 17 new signings together over the course of the season after Chelsea invested almost £600m on transfers in the last two windows.

And Carragher doubts it was ever going to work for Potter at Stamford Bridge with the former Liverpool defender criticising the initial decision to move Tuchel on for Potter.

Carragher wrote on Twitter: “Todd said he would be different to Roman.

“I feel for Graham Potter, but it was inevitable. You don’t change Tuchel for Potter. Ridiculous decision to start with.”

Reports on Monday have claimed that Potter was never able to gain the respect of the Chelsea players with the former Swansea City boss never managing an elite club.

And former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara thinks Potter’s failure to handle the “big characters” in the Chelsea dressing room cost him his job.

“Chelsea are 11th – for me, it’s unacceptable,” O’Hara told Sky Sports. “The amount of money they’ve spent, [co-owner] Todd Boehly has come in.

“I know you’ve invested in Graham Potter. You had to get him away from Brighton, but he’s miles off it. The players are not responding to his tactics.

“The teams he picks from the start are strange. He’s constantly changing it. Then the subs he makes in the second half are all over the place.

“He’s not used to having big characters at Brighton, Graham Potter.”
