Arsenal are “very happy” with the signing of Jorginho but will pursue another midfielder at the end of the season, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Mikel Arteta was eager to bring Brighton’s Moises Caicedo to the Emirates in the January transfer window but was unsuccessful in doing so.

Albion reportedly rejected two bids for the Ecuadorian midfielder, with the Gunners willing to pay £70million.

Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool are also believed to be interested in signing Caicedo ahead of the summer transfer window, despite the fact the player signed a new four-and-a-half-year contract last week.

Jorginho was signed from the Blues on deadline day in the winter window in a deal that was initially condemned by a large portion of the Arsenal fan base.

However, the Italian playmaker has done well since moving from west to north in the capital.

Writing for CaughtOffside, Romano has said Jorginho has impressed in his short time at the Emirates, but the transfer expert ‘believes’ the Gunners will look to sign a new midfielder in the summer.

‘Arsenal are very happy with Jorginho, on the pitch but also in the dressing room he had great impact and they’re very happy with him,’ Romano said.

‘I still believe that Arsenal want a new midfielder in the summer to help Mikel Arteta if they find the right opportunity, but Jorginho is a permanent signing and they’re convinced it was an excellent deal.’

It is believed that Arsenal’s top target ahead of the summer is West Ham midfielder Declan Rice.

There are expected to be a lot of midfield signings this summer, with Rice, Caicedo, Adrien Rabiot and Jude Bellingham among those being targeted by Premier League clubs.

Arsenal should prioritise Rice and if they miss out on him, will probably reignite their interest in Caicedo.

Bellingham for me, as an Arsenal fan, should be a player Arteta is aggressively pursuing.

Liverpool, Real Madrid and Manchester City have all put in a lot of work behind the scenes to try and convince Bellingham to join them.

Arsenal are way behind in that regard, but the Borussia Dortmund midfielder is expected to choose the club he sees as the best project.

I may be biased in saying this, but, the project at the Emirates could be absolutely perfect for the 19-year-old.

Arteta is building something special with the youngest squad in the Premier League.

Arsenal are currently top of the league and are eyeing their first title in 19 years, against all the odds.

Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and William Saliba are only three of the young players taking the league by storm, while the likes of Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka are thriving in the latter years of their careers.

Saying that, Xhaka’s position as a box-to-box midfielder strikes me as the perfect role for Bellingham.

The teenager has a position waiting for him under Arteta and he would join several other young players, who are already performing at an incredible level with their prime years still to come.

Hey Jude, come to Arsenal. You know you want to.
