Barcelona star Ronald Araujo admits he was angered by Alejandro Garnacho’s provocative social media post after Manchester United’s Europa League win over the Spanish giants.

United saw off Barcelona with a 2-1 win at Old Trafford having drawn the first leg at the Nou Camp 2-2, with Garnacho featuring for 31 minutes across the two games.

But the United teen caused quite a stir with a post on social media, in which he copied the celebration of Barcelona midfielder Pedri, along with the words: “The big team goes through.”

Asked by Infobae whether Garnacho’s post had angered him, Araujo said: “Yes. Everyone is as they are, but at that time, it should not have been possible to post something like that.

“I respect everyone and I feel that humility should be ahead of everything. Everyone expresses themselves as they want, but I prefer to have a lower profile and then show what I do on the pitch.

“This is football, he is very young and there is still a long way to go. You have to proceed calmly and humbly.”

Garnacho now faces a significant spell on the sidelines having sustained a “serious” ankle injury during United’s draw with Southampton.

But manager Erik ten Hag hopes he still has a big part to play as they attempt to add the Europa League and FA Cup to their Carabao Cup triumph.

“I can’t say exactly (what the timescale is) at this moment but it will take weeks, so it’s a serious injury,” .

“I didn’t expect (that) but a foul, a serious injury once again after Christian Eriksen (after a tackle by Reading’s Andy Carroll). We have a serious injury after contact.

“Of course it’s difficult. He makes great progression and he was selected by the national team.

“It was a big moment for him and he’s in a really good development and you don’t want to disturb that process.

“Now we have to step away from it but he will be back for the end of the season.
