Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold feels for Arsenal as there is “no stopping” Man City “once they start winning” during the Premier League run-in.

The Gunners have been superb this season as they have surpassed expectations to challenge Man City for the Premier League title.

Mikel Arteta’s team have been top of the table for much of the campaign but they have now been overtaken by City.

Arsenal endured a tough patch last month as they did not win for four games. They drew against Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton

The London outfit returned to winning ways against Chelsea earlier this week but City have won nine Premier League games in a row.

As things stand, City will move four points clear of at the top of the league if they win their remaining game in hand. Pep Guardiola’s side host Leeds United on Saturday afternoon while the Gunners face Newcastle at St James’ Park.

If Man City win the league this season, it will be the fifth time they have won the title out of the past six seasons.

Liverpool previously fell short in title races with Man City and Alexander-Arnold thinks “it’s game over” as soon as Guardiola’s team “smell blood at Christmas”.

“The league is obvious now and I’ve said it for a while,” Alexander-Arnold told Red Bull. “If City are even anywhere close, if they smell blood at Christmas, New Year – it’s game over really.

“There’s no stopping them once they start winning and, now at this point, I’d be surprised if they drew a game. I think it’s got to be a mindset because they don’t even go behind in games at this point.

“There’s no messing around, there’s no scares, there’s no ups and downs. Arsenal were exciting because, they were dropping points, but in an exciting way. Whereas City, I don’t even know how to describe it – they are like juggernauts.”

Arsenal may not win the Premier League this season but Arsene Wenger feels they “have the quality” to challenge again next term.

“If it’s not this year, it will be maybe next year, but the quality is there, you know, and the team is especially going forward, very young.

“But I like the way they play, they are mobile, they make intelligent decisions around the box, they play well together and all the ingredients are there.”
