VfL Wolfsburg have secured the services of Moritz Jenz. The 24-year-old centre-back, who has been on loan at FC Schalke 04 since January, joins the Green-and-Whites from Ligue 1 outfit FC Lorient on a contract until 2027.

“Moritz is a robust defender who is strong in the tackle, has tremendous pace and has a confident passing game,” said VfL sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz. “Despite his tender age, he has already been with several clubs and also has experience of playing in Europe. We’re confident he can take the next step in his career with us and will prove to be an important addition to our squad.”

The 1.9m defender came through the junior ranks at TeBe Berlin before joining English side Fulham’s youth academy in 2015. After a spell with Lausanne, the Berlin native signed for French side FC Lorient in 2021.

Jenz spent the first half of last season on loan with Scottish giants Celtic, for whom he made six appearances in the UEFA Champions League – including against RB Leipzig. He was loaned to Schalke in January 2023, making 11 Bundesliga appearances for the Gelsenkirchen side.

Jenz stated: “I’m really looking forward to this new challenge. VfL Wolfsburg are a very ambitious club who want to play in Europe. It’s the perfect environment for me to continue my development. I’m a player who brings heart and passion to the pitch and gives everything for his club and their colours.”

Jenz is the Wolves’ second new signing for the upcoming campaign following the arrival of Cedric Zesiger from Swiss double-winners Young Boys.
