After suffering their first defeat of the season at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, several VfL Wolfsburg players have bid farewell to their club colleagues and joined their respective national teams ahead of the upcoming international break. Wolves boss Niko Kovac will be without 12 players for the next couple of weeks, almost all of whom are involved in key qualifying games.

Full internationals Jonas Wind, Joakim Maehle (both Denmark), Jakub Kaminski (Poland), Koen Casteels (Belgium), Patrick Wimmer (Austria), Cedric Zesiger (Switzerland), Lovro Majer (Croatia) and Vaclav Cerny (Czechia) are set to feature in qualifiers for next summer’s European Championship in Germany, while Kevin Paredes is hoping to be involved in two friendlies for the USA after being called up to the squad for the first time. Elsewhere, Aster Vranckx (Belgium U21s) and Tiago Tomas (Portugal U21s) are taking part in qualifying games for the 2025 Under-21 European Championship in Slovakia, while German U19 player Dzenan Pejcinovic is hoping to catch the eye in two friendly matches in Spain.
